Did you enjoy having: A Full Two Weeks Off for the Holiday Break?

As you may remember from last year, having two-weeks off for this holiday break is not a given. It exists because of the BEA-BPS Contract (see language below) negotiated by your union. A few years ago, Oakland County school superintendents voted to cut the holiday break short and have classes resume on Thursday, January 2nd in order to meet a state mandated calendar requirement, with questionable benefits for student learning. But through the creativity of your bargaining team and your support, the BEA was able to lengthen the holiday break, maintain a full week of February break, and end the school year at the same time as other districts.

Enjoy the next two days off!!

"The parties [the Birmingham Education Association and the Birmingham Board of Education] will negotiate a calendar. The calendar negotiated shall be submitted to the parties for ratification by the BEA membership and approval by the Board of Education.”
